Synopsis[]
In the aftermath of the quarantine, the staff of San Jose St. Bonaventure Hospital tries to return to their normal routines as the Department of Public Health office decides they need to review what transpired to restore public confidence. Meanwhile, as Dr. Audrey Lim recovers from the virus, she and Dr. Neil Melendez navigate their new personal and working relationship, while Dr. Shaun Murphy and Dr. Aaron Glassman try to relax and visit Lea at work.[2]
Plot[]
Following the quarantine at the hospital, Shaun, Park, Morgan and Claire are given the day off. Park is practicing his martial arts, Morgan is meditating, Claire is out on a run and Lea is dancing while scared when Shaun sees her make a fool out of herself. Lea is surprised that Shaun is already awake following what he's gone through, all the while trying to advise him on how to be spending his day.
The hospital is also still recovering, all the while Dr. Andrews is surprised that it is being investigated and is forced into complying. As Shaun is trying to figure out what to do all day, Neil finds that Dr. Lim is already working again despite also recovering. She thinks he's just trying to be supportive, but Neil tries to state otherwise and Lim states that their relationship was better while they were competing.
Claire is in her apartment, singing a song when Morgan calls if Claire would like to join her at Hollander's for mimosas. Although Claire is surprised, Morgan states that she's found Claire's dating profile and offers a fake profile she uses for research if they go out together. Meanwhile, Park has Kellan visiting and attempts to convince Mia that they should spend the day together and she ultimately agrees.
Still unsure of what to do, Shaun visits Dr. Glassman who is leaving the hospital early despite Dr. Blaize's warnings. He states that he's had enough of being sick and being around sick people during his treatment. Although Shaun is concerned about Glassman disrupting his own treatment, Glassman feels that he could lose his mind if he's still in the hospital. Shaun offers to come with Glassman, who is questioning if their friendship is based on how they don't have any other friends. When Lea offers for Shaun to have lunch with her, he initially declines since Glassman doesn't want to until Glassman agrees to join.
Claire and Morgan are out together when Claire apologizes for Tyler, knowing that Morgan liked him. While Morgan tries to claim that she's alright, she mocks Claire who is trying to be sympathetic which annoys her when she gets a phone call from Breeze. At the same time, Park, Mia and Kellan are at the batting cages where Kellan is doing well. Park questions if Mia is seeing anyone, all the while asking about the possibility of getting back together though Mia jokes that she doesn't.
Andrews tries to question the woman leading the investigation Carmen Dunn if they need anything, but she states that they don't, they have findings and questions Andrews on how he is both the hospital's President and Chief of Surgery. However, he states his reasons that he thought it was OK and it won't affect patient care. He also calls her out on her bureaucratic nature and she and the others have no idea on what the staff have to deal with.
Claire has to leave as Breeze is possibly being evicted, which Morgan tries to get herself involved in helping; she admits that she actually is upset about Tyler and wants to help. At the hospital, Andrews is annoyed when Aoki is on Dunn's side about his double position since she thinks it could've contributed to their shortage of staff. Andrews tries to state that hospitals are always dealing with staff issues, while refusing to go against his decision or he'll be made a fool. Aoki, however, states that it will make everyone see that Andrews can make mistakes like the rest of the staff can.
Lea brings Shaun and Glassman to her workplace's cafeteria, while also reporting that they have a gym, basketball court and ice rink and offers a range of choices for food. As Glassman awkwardly tries to be social, Claire and Morgan are helping Breeze clear out her refrigerator when Claire realizes that Breeze has had someone stay with her. Breeze initially refuses to answer, claiming that her landlord is simply kicking her out, only to confess that she's in a relationship, he's apparently abusive and is trying to escape him.
As Park and Mia are playing golf with Mia getting the better of Park, she asks about a woman that he likes and his colleagues. Unfortunately, Park refuses to divulge anything about his personal life which makes Mia remark about this being why they broke up and they get into an argument about it. Morgan also tries to come up with a plan to get Breeze's boyfriend, Carnell Hunter, to stop giving Breeze trouble, only for Claire to refuse to do anything since Breeze has had an unfortunate taste in men and doesn't want the police involved anyway. This leads to Morgan revealing that she had a stalker in med school and has a gun on her and plans to just warn Carnell.
Claire and Morgan go to where Carnell works, only for Morgan to question why Claire is the way she is with Breeze whom Morgan knows has bipolar disorder. Neil soon comes to see Lim concerning his competitive attitude and states that he is always professional, while Lim is the one that has asked him out and he won't go out of his way to be nice to her again. Lea also tries to question why Glassman acts the way he does with her, only for Shaun to try and ask that she talk to Glassman about his treatment. Lea attempts to suggest that he just be supportive to Glassman and give him time, but Shaun states that he doesn't have time and thinks that she doesn't understand (to her annoyance) while Glassman arrives with no food after he got confused due to all the options.
Park, Mia and Kellan soon get something to eat, only for things to still be tense between Park and Mia. Park again attempts to bring up him and Mia reconciling, stating that he needs her to remind him of the person he can be. However, Mia states that Park just doesn't have anyone and is exhausted concerning what he'd just been through. He then starts to open up, which she thanks him for since it's hard for him to do that. However, she still sees that they need to move on.
Claire and Morgan go to confront Carnell. When Morgan starts threatening him for his apparent behavior, Claire explains the situation while he states that he's never hurt another woman and that he loves Breeze. He even proposed to her, which leads to Claire and Morgan going back to confront Breeze. Although she isn't happy about them getting involved, Breeze admits that Carnell is rather sensitive and didn't know how to react when he proposed. Claire tells Breeze to talk to Carnell about slowing down with things, though Breeze isn't even sure why she is the way she is concerning him.
Andrews is soon confronted concerning the findings from the investigation, stating that they know about Lim injecting Bob (who wasn't even a patient) with Haldol, Neil ignoring Chris' DNR and Shaun curling up in the fetal position due to his autism. Dunn states that she will work to make sure that their medical licenses are suspended. Lea soon takes Shaun and Glassman to racing electric sprint-karts which her company uses to test their device prototypes. Although Shaun and Glassman don't have much optimism about this, Lea tries to encourage them nonetheless.
While Shaun, Glassman and Lea race (which Lea is impressed with), Park bonds with Kellan on a Just Dance game which Mia is pleased with, Andrews informs Neil, Lim and Aoki of the situation and Breeze and Carnell talk things out. While Lea and Glassman appear to bond following this, Andrews again confronts Dunn over how she knows nothing of what Lim and Neil did because they're doctors and they did what they did out of care for others. He also states that the two should be shown gratitude for their efforts and promises to see her at the hearing.
That night, Lim goes to see Neil and apologizes for what she said, while confessing that she's scared due to her feelings for Neil which she doesn't want to end. Neil reciprocates the sentiment, but questions whether this is a good idea in the face of being investigated. Lim then responds by suggesting that they not tell anyone about their relationship. Claire also thanks Morgan for helping her, while offering for Morgan to possibly talk if Morgan would like to. Morgan thanks Claire for that, while stating that her own mother and Claire should meet.
While Glassman agrees to not postponing his chemotherapy and instead speed it up, he calls Lea a good friend, questioning if she'd like to be more than that, stating about how much of a good man Shaun is and that he deserves happiness. Park also says goodbye to Mia, who agrees about them possibly reconciling and happily offers to come back alone for a weekend. Shaun soon returns to his and Lea's apartment, supposedly agreeing to what Glassman said and finds that she has a beer while asking to try one. Lea agrees when Shaun notices one on the table, which Lea explains belongs to Jake - her boyfriend and the two leave to go out together. Park and Kellan also watch The Wolfman together, Mia leaves happy, Lim is taken home by Neil, Claire researches men online to date, Morgan continues her yoga and Shaun appears devasted as it appears that he likes Lea but can't tell her that.
