― Breeze Browne |
Breeze Browne was Claire Browne's mother and a recurring character throughout the first three seasons.
Biography[]
Early Life[]
Not much about her early life is known but Claire states that she was sick a lot which she tried to hide (without success) and had problems with drinking and drugs. Her husband Miles walked out on them at an unknown time. Although he said that he regularly sent them money, it seems that Breeze just kept it for herself as opposed to using some of it for Claire. At one point, they lived in a trailer.
Breeze constantly left Claire home alone a lot to go out with her boyfriends, even stealing money that Claire was saving up for herself. Meanwhile, Claire was left to constantly take care of herself, go to medical school and work at St. Bonaventure Hospital.
Season 1[]
Breeze apparently tried to get herself help, realising that Claire was right that she was sick, and once came to the hospital where Claire worked at to try and get money for an apartment, while claiming that she wanted to reconcile with Claire who initially wasn't interested. Breeze, however, was able to convince Claire. The two soon met to talk where Breeze revealed her true colors and that she was just the same as she always was.
Season 2[]
Breeze entered into a relationship with a man, Carnell Hunter. He loved her and she loved him too, but he soon proposed to her. Breeze didn't want to tell him no because he's sensitive, so she attempted to escape her apartment while getting Claire to help her. However, she and her fellow colleague Morgan Reznick convinced Breeze to talk things out with Carnell.
Season 3[]
Breeze lived with Claire for some time, which Claire was not happy with when Breeze kept claiming she would find a place for herself but she didn't. They soon started attending therapy together and began working out their issues. However, Breeze found and got drunk on the champagne Claire was saving to celebrate her first surgery as lead doctor, resulting in Breeze suffering a fatal car crash.
Claire and Morgan spread Breeze's ashes at the sea lion exhibit at the Marine Science Center as Breeze had wanted. At Morgan's suggestion, Claire sang Amazing Grace due to Breeze's love of music.
Aftermath[]
Following Breeze's death, Claire descended into a spiral of self-destruction and cynicism which she was able to deal with.
When Claire's friend and superior Dr. Audrey Lim was dealing with PTSD as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, Lim lashed out at Claire who attempted to help her while also comparing Lim’s attitude to Breeze.
While Claire was treating Edna Garza, a woman at a hospital in Guatemala who was there with her daughter, she told Edna about Breeze in an attempt to get Edna to get medical help when Edna was reluctant to have it.
Personality[]
Breeze was bipolar and unfair to Claire, to whom Breeze used to say "Upstage me and I'll beat your ass." She loved singing and sea lions. Although her attending therapy with Claire appeared to show that she wanted to try to have a good relationship with her daughter, all that she was proved to be her downfall.
