Esther is a retired veterinarian who became trapped in the San Jose St. Bonaventure Hospital ER during a quarantine.

Season 2[]
In "Quarantine," Esther is in the ER for an unspecified condition when a viral outbreak causes a quarantine to be imposed. After a diabetic man goes into hypoglycemic shock, Esther tries to help Nurse Deena Petringa treat him until Kellan Park begins suffering an asthma attack. Esther immediately becomes fearful that the teenager is suffering from the virus and backs away with Kellan's condition causing panic to begin to set in amongst the patients in the waiting room.
In "Quarantine: Part Two," the situation is defused when Dr. Alex Park breaks into the ER to help his son. Shaun later reports to Park and Dr. Morgan Reznick that Esther's ST depressions have improved before moving on to Viola's water breaking. Esther remains by the side of Santa Pete, a Mall Santa who is recovering from bowel repair surgery in the ER. When Park seeks help to perform a bone marrow extraction on Bob Cravens, Santa Pete suggests Esther help him due to her past as a veterinarian, the closest thing they have to another available doctor amongst the patients. Park and Esther successfully perform the extraction, but Bob suffers complications and goes into cardiac arrest. Park desperately tries to revive Bob to no effect and he dies.
After the quarantine is lifted, Esther remains with the recovering Santa Pete when Dr. Shaun Murphy confirms that he is clear of the virus, but must remain in the hospital to recover from his surgery. Esther promises Santa Pete to keep him company, but first visits Bob's estranged son to convey Bob's regrets to him, expressed by Bob to Park and Esther during the extraction.
