Mateo Rendón Osma is a character that first appeared in the season 4 finale on The Good Doctor. He organized for the crew to do surgeries in Guatemala and has a romantic relationship with Dr. Audrey Lim.
Mateo was born in the U.S. but his mother was Spanish which is how he learnt the language. When they were in Guatemala, Mateo told Audrey that he is wanted in the U.S. which is the reason why he hasn’t returned in 15 years.
Season 4[]
While in Guatemala, Mateo and Audrey start dating, at the end of the trip Mateo sorts out his legal matters and comes to the U.S. with Audrey.
Season 5[]
He applied and received a Californian Provisional Medical License, Mateo then starts working at San Jose General Hospital but Audrey offers him a job at San Jose St. Bonaventure Hospital and he accepts. Mateo struggled having Dr. Andrews as his superior and working under him but they eventually made amends. Mateo went on a humanitarian trip to Guatemala and sent one of his patients, Rosa Castillo, back to St. Bonaventure Hospital as they didn’t have the resources to treat her there. Rosa is then transferred to San Jose General due to Salen and her policies. Audrey learns that she is Mateo’s ex-girlfriend and Rosa figured out that Audrey is his girlfriend. Audrey asks why she broke up with Mateo and Rosa replies that he used to go on a lot of missions and normally came back home, however one time he didn’t. Rosa said that she had talked to Mateo just the other day, Audrey had attempted to reach Mateo multiple times before this and eventually left a voicemail telling him not to come back for her.
