"More" is the eighteenth and final episode of Season 1 of The Good Doctor. It aired on March 26, 2018.

Synopsis[]

The team at St. Bonaventure needs to quickly discover the truth behind a young college student's unexplained injuries before his condition worsens. Meanwhile, after losing his most prized possession, Shaun's distraction during a surgical procedure may end up risking more than just his job.

Plot[]

Shaun attempts to rekindle his and Dr. Glassman's friendship, seeing that he needs a friend more than space. Although Glassman is flattered when Shaun compliments him as his mentor and friend, he states that Shaun will have to find a new mentor; Glassman thinks he's got an inoperable glioma with somewhere between 12 and 18 months to live. While telling Shaun to not tell anyone, Shaun tries to suggest what it actually is and get Glassman to get a second opinion which Glassman reluctantly agrees to.

Jared and Dr. Lim are checking over a drunk young man, Caden, whose left leg is in a bad state. His friend Blake claims that he found Caden who had supposedly tripped on a curb, but Dr. Park's attempts to question this are interrupted when Lim has him involved in the surgery. While it is happening, Caden's blood pressure starts dropping and his heart rate increases. They are then forced to stop the surgery until they figure out what else is wrong with him. Shaun attempts to help Glassman when he finds that his scalpel from Steve has apparently gone missing when Glassman states that a friend of his revealed the same results from earlier. Glassman then sends Shaun back to work, which Shaun reluctantly agrees with.

Park is angry when he thinks that Blake hurt Caden, to which Blake confesses that they were partaking in an initiation and Caden ate detergent tablets. Farther surgery is done on Caden, but Neil has been called to another OR and he gives Shaun the lead on finishing it. Shaun then thinks that his scalpel is in Glassman's office and attempts to look for it, but is unsuccessful. He also tries to get Glassman to do more imaging while Caden is revealed to have a bleed. Shaun goes so far as to get Jessica to get Glassman to do the imaging.

Neil talks to the team about Caden's bleeding and they try to figure out how it happened while Shaun still can't find his scalpel. Morgan blames it on Shaun, who wasn't concentrating in the OR, though Claire tries to defend him. Nonetheless, Neil tells them to treat Caden but can't help but question Glassman about Shaun. Glassman confesses his tumor diagnosis, to Neil's dismay and states that Glassman should've told him or kept it from Shaun. The team still look over Caden when Claire attempts to order treatment for him, all the while dealing with Morgan still believing it's Shaun's fault.

Park and Jared again question Blake while healing him. While he confesses that Caden's on Ecstasy, Jessica confronts Glassman about him only telling Shaun and tries to get him to do the imaging for Shaun. As Dr. Andrews also hears about Caden, Glassman agrees to the imaging to find that he actually has about four months to live. The treatment on Caden isn't working and Andrews keeps asking about it. Glassman also gets frustrated when Shaun won't give up about the fact that Glassman is apparently dying and isn't accepting it like Glassman, who tells Shaun to come with him.

Jared, Neil and Park do surgery on Caden while Shaun and Glassman go on a carousel, which Glassman's daughter Maddie used to love going on. When he remembers them dancing, he states that he regrets not having her with him. While Shaun admits to having lost the scalpel, he offers to come to the carousel when Glassman is gone too. Shaun is soon called back to the hospital concerning Caden, during which he realizes that it was him as he nicked the arteries. He then leaves, which Neil works out that he's going to Glassman who still tries to get Shaun to face facts about his fate. Shaun appears to accept, only to point out that a biopsy through his nose can show what's going on with the tumor which appears to renew Glassman's hope.

Morgan questions about what they're going to do, only for them all to become divided; Morgan tries to push for Andrews to be informed while Park states that it's protocol to prevent such future mistakes, only for Claire to state that Morgan is just using this to get rid of Shaun as competition, Jared questions the mistake as being how upset Shaun was and Claire points out that the rest of them would've simply just been given a warning if they did it. Ultimately, Neil focuses their efforts on the medicine and that an investigation won't be necessary if Caden survives and they'll face the consequences together if he doesn't.

Andrews approaches Aoki concerning her feelings about Shaun and refers to Glassman's promise to step down as president. Aoki and Andrews admit that Shaun has done well, while Aoki's feelings about Glassman haven't changed. Shaun suggests that they insert an endovascular graft through Caden's leg, fixing it from the inside. Although Neil and Park are unsure about doing anything at all, Morgan supports Shaun and admits that he has made saves none of them could've (despite still thinking he shouldn't be at the hospital).

During Caden's surgery, Shaun asks if he can deflate the balloon so that Neil won't bare the conscious of Caden dying due to Shaun's idea. Neil replies that everything in the OR is his own responsibility and offers that they do it together. The surgery is a success while Shaun finds the scalpel in his bag. Neil states that he's proud of the team and refuses to allow anyone to go. He also offers to take everyone out for drinks as that's what they do when they get lucky, as well as telling Morgan that he hopes there is someone who will believe in her when she makes a mistake herself.

Shaun goes to see Glassman who admits that he got the biopsy; his glioma is actually low-grade. Although he'll have to go through a lot of brain surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy, he's going to live. Although he got lucky, Shaun states a need to report the issue to Andrews as it is protocol. Jessica warns against this, but Glassman knows that Shaun wants to do the right thing. They soon go to Andrews' office while Shaun states that he's not doing this to hurt Glassman and that he loves him. Glassman states that he loves Shaun too, while Shaun states that he loves Glassman more as Maddie did.
