"The Lea Show" is the seventeenth episode of Season 5 of The Good Doctor. It is the ninety-third episode overall and aired on May 9, 2022.

Synopsis[]

Sophie (Hollis Jane Andrews) takes Lea out for a day full of luxurious wedding planning. And after a near fatal oversight, Dr. Lim senses an underlying issue is behind Nurse Villanueva's (Elfina Luk) unprofessional behavior.

Plot[]

Claire Browne is interviewed about the first time she met Shaun. She admits that Shaun wasn't someone she would go to for medical insight but he was also the only one who knew how to save a little boy's life. Shaun interrupts the interview by yelling that pancakes are ready. Lea is planning the wedding and someone knocks on the door. Audrey Lim is at the door because she heard there was pancakes being served. Lim and Claire hug and Lim gives Claire a coffee.

Sophie rented out a limo bus for Lea to ride in while they go shopping for her dream dress. She makes sure to take a pancake before she leaves.

At the hospital, Claire meets up with her patient, Lucho, who has been flown to the US for surgery that will remove his tumors.

Lim is called to a hospital room where a patient's heart rate has spiked. Lim stabilizes the patient and learns that he didn't get his medicine last night that would've prevented the increase in heart rate. She asks who was covering the floor and Jerome tells her Villanueva.

Morgan asks if Alex has seen Claire's new patient. She then tells him that she bought a gift for Shaun and Lea's wedding, a bread maker.

In the limo, Jordan and Lea celebrate going wedding shopping. Lea is still struggling to choose a wedding theme. After browsing the options, Lea choose upscale elegance.

Lucho is getting an MRI while Shaun looks at ring options. Lim comes into the room and Claire asks if she would make a good Chief of Surgery. Lim believes she would but she warns her that days can be challenging as Chief of Surgery and it may involve putting emotions to the side, which is a fault of Claire's. Shaun finds the perfect ring because Lea can sell the wing and get two laptops. Lucho's scans show he has three tumors including, a small tumor in his heart, a large tumor in his brain, and another in his kidney.

Marcus talks to the doctors about Lucho's case and assigns teams, each will work with a different tumor. Shaun, Claire, and Glassman are assigned the tumor in Lucho's brain. Lim and Asher are assigned the tumor in Lucho's heart. Alex and Andrews will take care of the kidney. To oversee the process, Claire volunteers but Lim wants someone more detached than Claire but she assigns Claire the position.

Lea and Jordan are getting spas and Sophie tells them that most of everything has been handled, including confirmations of guests. Lea has 48 guests and Shaun has 9. Sophie decides to fill up the empty seat with seat fillers and gets Lea's parents seats in first class.

Alex and Andrews practice their surgery on a dummy. Alex asks what Andrews got Shaun and Lea. Andrews is giving them a trip to Napa where they can relax and drink wine. Andrews criticizes Alex's gift of a bread maker. They can't get the surgery right on the dummy so they think they should remove the kidney but Claire doesn't like the idea. She tells them to come up with a better plan.

Lim and Asher talk about their approach when Claire and Morgan join them. Morgan suggests a solution but Lim and Asher are unsure. Meanwhile, Lim is reassigned to team brain.

In her office, Lim talks to Villanueva about why she was absent during the time she was supposed to cover the floor. Villanueva was busy with her abusive boyfriend, Owen, and assumes Lim wants to fire her, but Lim doesn't and she puts Villanueva on administrative duties. She then gives Villanueva the number of a woman who runs a women's shelter. Villanueva is unsure if she can go because Owen is going through a lot and she wants to be there for him like he was for her. While Lim sympathizes, she believes that Villanueva should go to the shelter.

Shaun tells him team that Lea has chosen the wedding theme. Shaun worries about his clothing because of the amount of gel required and how restrictive the clothing looks but Lea likes the clothing. Claire tells Shaun to tell Lea but Glassman tells Shaun to just wear the suit to make Lea happy. Lucho then has a seizure.

The teams argue about what surgery to do first. Shaun wants to handle the brain first but Andrews believes the kidneys should be taken care of first. Claire decides to do the kidneys that day and the brain the next day.

Lea comes out in a wedding dress that she really likes. Jordan worries that the dress isn't Lea but Lea likes the dress because the dress matches the occasion. She's also not worried about the dress being bad because Shaun will let Lea know.

The team operates on Lucho when Morgan talks about her wedding gift to Shaun and Lea. She asks if Shaun likes bread and likes to choose his own ingredients. Asher then talks about his issue with Jerome and how he doesn't want to match clothing to the wedding. Claire suggests that Jerome isn't worried about being tacky and that Asher should respect Jerome because of who he is. Lucho then starts to bleed. Andrews wants to take out the kideny but Claire tells them to stop. She then takes over the surgery and stops the bleeding, stabilizing Lucho.

After the surgery, Lim tells Claire that she thinks Guatemala was good for her. She's close to being a successful chief but Lim doesn't think that they should've started with the kidneys. Claire is annoyed because Lim isn't being as friendly as she thought she would be. Lim tells Claire about a nurse who is being domestically abused and was distracted. Claire gets the message that to be a good chief you have to fire someone, no matter their situation. Claire says she used to admire Lim but now she doesn't because the choices she is now making no longer make Lim a fantastic chief.

The next day, Shaun cooks for Lea a food that he doesn't like but Lea loves. Lea realizes Shaun doesn't like his dress but Lea says Shaun can wear what he wants. Shaun says he's okay with the wedding and his suit. He then forces himself to eat the food and try to be okay with it.

Villanueva returns to Lim's and gives her a resignation. She then leaves the office.

Claire reviews Shaun's plan for the brain surgery. He is also being fitted for his tux but Shaun thinks it's tight in important places. Claire asks if Shaun talked to Lea and Shaun did but he wants to make the suit work. Shaun tears the tux and is happy when he takes it off. Claire and Shaun leave the room and rush to Lucho's room. He has a blood clot obstructing their access to the tumor. Shaun has a 'vision' but it doesn't help.

Claire tells Lucho that they are going home because they can't do anything for him. Shaun watches from outside the room.

Shaun is at a party but he can't stop thinking about Lucho. He worries he will fail at the marriage because he has been failing a lot. Shaun gets an idea when he looks at a light. He rushes back to the hospital to save Lucho.

When Lucho wakes up, Claire tells him the tumor from his brain is gone. She then gifts him a soccer ball. Claire goes to see Shaun and she hugs him, telling him she misses him. Shaun misses Claire as well but he has to leave to get married.

Lea is stressed at the church and she requests to talk to Shaun.

Lim refuses Villanueva's resignation. She wants Villanueva to live with her as a friend.

When Sophie finds Shaun and Lea, Lea informs Sophie that they won't be doing a wedding. The wedding is not them. Sophie understands and she tells them to go have fun and be happy being them.

Claire and Audrey make up and they hug, admitting that they've lost point on the badass scale.

Lea and Shaun get on a bus and leave their wedding.
