Dr. Will Hooper is a first year surgical resident specializing in orthopedics looking to obtain a job at St. Bonaventure Hospital.
History[]
Early Life[]
Will is the son of a French teacher and a Wall Street M&M lawyer. He got into rowing and became an Olympian on the US National Rowing Team, Men's Eight, before choosing to go into medicine due to having surgery on his ACL in high school and his rotator cuffs in high school inspiring him to help other people. He graduated top of his class at Stanford University and is ranked first by every top residency program.
Season 4[]
In "Newbies," Will is one of the resident applicants with Dr. Audrey Lim telling the residents that he was the best of the applicants and they needed to get him to join their program because his scores showed that Will is the best. However, Will's arrogant and obnoxious personality rubs the residents the wrong way, particularly Claire Browne.
When the time comes to decide who will become the new residents, though Alex Park and Shaun Murphy don't speak up against Will, Claire does, believing that despite how bright he is, Will's personality will make it impossible to work with him and that he's actually the worst choice instead of the best. Claire realizes that Lim already knew this and was testing the residents to see if they would be totally honest. Lim congratulates Claire and agrees that Will is "definitely the worst." Lim had only even let Will shadow the doctors in the first place as a favor for a board member, figuring she'd give him a second chance after his obnoxious interview and to do a little experiment at the same time. Will is thus rejected as a new resident at the hospital.
Trivia[]
- Claire Browne predicted that if Will had actually gone to work at St. Bonaventure, his arrogant and obnoxious personality would've resulted in the work suffering and either patients dying or the other doctors killing him in the end.
